SAD 500 training: SAD 500 & VOCs workshop
1-day virtual workshop: preparing and submitting the SAD500
Practical SAD 500 training: how to properly prepare and submit the SAD500 and vouchers of correction (VOCs), improve the accuracy of SARS submissions, use the correct customs procedure codes and avoid delays and penalties.
About this course
If you are an importer, exporter or freight agent, you need to know the detail of these two vital documents. This hands-on workshop covers the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), general segment data, other required information and the legal consequences of misrepresenting information, in line with customs control, duties and excise legislation.
The SAD 500 is the customs declaration used in South Africa to declare goods for import, export, warehousing, transit and other customs procedures. Every field carries consequences: the tariff heading, customs value and procedure code entered decide the duty and VAT payable and whether SARS releases the goods or stops them for inspection.
A voucher of correction (VOC) is used to amend a declaration after it has been submitted, for example to correct a value, tariff heading or quantity. Errors that are not corrected properly can lead to penalties, delays and rejected refund claims, which is why this SAD 500 training covers VOCs alongside the original declaration.

No. It suits importers, exporters and freight agents; a basic understanding of customs helps.
Is the course online?
Yes. It runs as a live virtual workshop on Zoom from 08h30 to 12h30 or in-house for your team.
What do delegates receive on completion?
A certificate of attendance. The workshop is aligned to SAQA ID 252425 at NQF Level 3 (4 credits).
Can this be run in-house for our team?
Yes, as a closed group online or on-site.
What is a customs procedure code?
A customs procedure code (CPC) tells SARS what is happening to the goods, for example home consumption, export, warehousing or transit. The wrong code can mean the wrong duty treatment or a rejected declaration, so this SAD 500 training covers choosing the correct code.
