Incoterms 2020 training
Practical Incoterms training for South African importers, exporters, buyers and sales teams. Choose the right rule, quote with confidence and avoid costly disputes over who pays and who carries the risk.
In short
Incoterms® 2020 are the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) rules that define the delivery responsibilities of buyers and sellers: who arranges transport, who pays which costs and where risk passes. Logtrain’s Incoterms 2020 course is a single four-hour live online session, also available in-house.
Why Incoterms training pays for itself
The wrong Incoterm on a quote or contract can leave a business paying freight it didn’t price for, uninsured when goods are damaged or liable for duties in the buyer’s country. These mistakes are common because many teams use the same term out of habit — often FOB or CIF for containerised cargo, where FCA or CIP usually fits better.
Our Incoterms 2020 training explains each of the 11 rules in plain terms, when to use them and what they do not cover. Incoterms set out delivery, cost and risk, but they do not transfer ownership, set the price or decide payment terms — those belong in the sales contract.
Delegates work through real South African import and export scenarios, including how the chosen rule interacts with customs valuation, insurance and the documents your team prepares.

Incoterms training: frequently asked questions
What are Incoterms 2020?
Incoterms 2020 are 11 standard trade rules published by the International Chamber of Commerce. Each rule defines which party arranges and pays for transport, insurance and customs clearance and the point at which risk passes from seller to buyer.
What is the difference between FOB and FCA?
Under FOB, risk passes when goods are loaded on board the vessel, so it suits sea and inland waterway transport only. Under FCA, risk passes when goods are handed to the carrier, which suits containerised cargo and any mode of transport.
Do Incoterms transfer ownership of goods?
No. Incoterms deal with delivery, costs and risk. Ownership, price and payment terms are set in the sales contract.
How long is the Incoterms course?
One live online session of four hours, from 08h30 to 12h30. It can also run in-house for your team.
What is the difference between CIF and CIP?
CIF applies only to sea and inland waterway transport and requires the seller to arrange minimum insurance cover. CIP applies to any mode of transport and, under Incoterms 2020, requires a higher level of cover under Institute Cargo Clauses (A).
Are Incoterms 2010 still valid?
Parties can still agree to use an earlier version if their contract says so, but Incoterms 2020 is the current version and the one most contracts should reference.
